Being a police officer means responding to violations of the law in every situation…
This was proven by Chief Inspector Mirosław Czarnota – Head of the Criminal Division at the 1st Police Precinct in Sosnowiec, who, while on vacation, detained an intoxicated driver, Polish Police announced.
Call
During a vacation trip in the town of Goleniów, Czarnota’s car broke down, necessitating a call for a tow truck. The police officer quickly realized that the man who arrived on the scene in an Opel Movano might be under the influence of alcohol. His suspicions were confirmed when he called in a police patrol. A breathalyzer test revealed that the driver had nearly 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. The man now faces up to 3 years in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol. Thanks to the officer’s quick reaction, a potentially dangerous road incident may have been averted.
Caution
On this occasion, we remind everyone never to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances – a very common cause of tragic road crashes. Alcohol leads to:
- Reduced reaction speed;
- Limited field of vision;
- Misjudgment of distance and speed;
- Overestimation of one’s abilities and a significant decrease in self-control and concentration;
- Distraction and drowsiness.
If you have doubts about a driver’s sobriety, report your suspicions to the authorities. By doing so, you might prevent a tragedy. Remember never to get behind the wheel unless you are sure of your sobriety. Always check at the nearest police station.
