ROADPOL organised and hosted a high-level meeting of European Law Enforcement Networks in the transportation sector on 14 December 2025 in Sofia, held at the Bulgarian National Police Chief Directorate.
The meeting formed part of the regular coordination framework bringing together sector-specific police networks active across different modes of transport.
The meeting convened representatives from AIRPOL, AQUAPOL, RAILPOL and ROADPOL, with the objective of strengthening inter-network cooperation and addressing crime-related activities that exploit multiple modes of transportation.
AIRPOL was represented by its President, Peter Nilsson, accompanied by his assistant, Alexandra Johansson-Wik. ROADPOL was represented by its Vice President and General Secretary, Damyan Vladinov. Unfortunately, AQUAPOL and RAILPOL were unable to attend this particular meeting.
IPA
The International Police Association (IPA) was invited to the meeting to deliver a presentation on its organisational structure, mission and global activities. The presentation also served as a starting point for discussions on potential cooperation between IPA and AIRPOL, noting that ROADPOL is already an established partner of IPA through an existing cooperation framework.
Collaboration
A constructive and forward-looking discussion was held between AIRPOL and ROADPOL, focusing on the functioning of both organisations, their respective mandates, and opportunities for enhanced cooperation among European Law Enforcement Networks. Particular attention was given to tackling criminal activities that use different and interconnected modes of transport, where coordinated action between specialised networks can provide significant operational added value.
Several areas of mutual interest were identified during the exchanges, and the organisations agreed that joint initiatives and collaborative actions will be pursued in the future.
Commitment
The Sofia meeting reaffirmed ROADPOL’s commitment to fostering strong, structured cooperation between European and international law enforcement networks. By encouraging dialogue, sharing expertise and aligning strategic priorities, ROADPOL continues to contribute to a more integrated and effective response to transport-related crime across Europe.
Further developments arising from the discussions, including joint initiatives and formalised cooperation arrangements, will be communicated in due course.
