ROADPOL Unveils 2026 Operations Plan

  • Post category:News

ROADPOL has unveiled its 2026 Pan-European Traffic Safety Operations Calendar, outlining a yearlong series of coordinated enforcement actions designed to curb road fatalities and serious injuries across Europe.

The operations will be carried out simultaneously by ROADPOL member countries and will target key risk areas including speeding, impaired driving, driver distraction, and compliance among commercial and vulnerable road users.

Coordination

The ROADPOL Operational Working Group (OPG) will once again coordinate these efforts, ensuring data collection, trend analysis, and sharing of best practices to strengthen the impact of enforcement and awareness activities.
The following operations are scheduled for 2026 across Europe:

Truck & Bus Operations

9–15 February, 4–10 May, 16–22 November
These checks will focus on the roadworthiness and compliance of heavy goods vehicles and buses. Officers will target unsafe practices such as overloading, violations of driving and rest time regulations, and technical defects that compromise safety.

Operation Seatbelt

9–15 March
Enforcement officers will ensure that all vehicle occupants are using seatbelts and that child restraint systems are correctly installed. Despite clear evidence of their lifesaving effect, failure to use seatbelts remains a leading factor in road fatalities.

Operation Speed

13–19 April and 3–9 August
Police forces across Europe will intensify speed enforcement to combat one of the most persistent causes of fatal crashes.
A
24-hour Speed Marathon will be held on 15 April, with participating countries conducting continuous checks to remind drivers that excessive speed kills.

Operation Alcohol & Drugs

15–21 June and 14–20 December
This operation will focus on detecting and deterring impaired driving caused by alcohol and drugs. A
24-hour Alcohol & Drugs Marathon will take place on 19 June, during which police officers will conduct extensive roadside testing to remove dangerous drivers from the roads.

Operation Two-Wheelers

6–12 July
Following the success of last year’s pilot initiative, ROADPOL will again dedicate a week to the safety of riders of
motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, and scooters. Checks will focus on vehicle condition, protective equipment, visibility, and rider behavior. With the growing popularity of two-wheeled transport, the campaign aims to enhance the safety of some of the most vulnerable road users.

ROADPOL Safety Days

16–22 September
Continuing the tradition, this awareness campaign will unite enforcement, education, and public engagement under the shared goal of achieving
zero fatalities on European roads for at least one day.

Operation Focus on the Road

5–11 October
This campaign will address the growing problem of driver distraction, particularly the use of mobile phones and electronic devices behind the wheel. Police will enforce laws against distracted driving and highlight the serious risks of inattention.

Approach

ROADPOL’s annual calendar of pan-European operations remains a cornerstone of our mission to make Europe’s roads safer,” said Chief Commissioner Jana Peleskova, Head of the ROADPOL Operational Working Group from the Police of the Czech Republic.
“By conducting simultaneous, high-visibility enforcement across our member countries, we not only deter dangerous behavior but also raise vital public awareness. Together with education and cooperation, enforcement is a key driver of change toward safer roads for all,” Peleskova emphasized.
