Motorcyclist and pedestrian fatalities rise in France despite road safety efforts, show the provisional results of the 2024 Road Crash Report, released by the French National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory.
3,190 people lost their lives on the roads in 2024, compared to 3,167 in 2023 (+23 fatalities, +0.7%). Interior Minister François-Noël Buffet highlighted that for the second consecutive year, road fatalities remain below 3,200, reflecting ongoing efforts in road safety. However, he stressed the collective responsibility of all road users—drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and scooter riders—to adopt responsible behavior, respect safety regulations, and be vigilant, especially towards the most vulnerable users.
