ROADPOL has released its 2025 Pan-European Traffic Safety Operations Calendar, outlining a series of coordinated enforcement actions aimed at reducing road fatalities and serious injuries.
The operations, carried out across member countries, will focus on key road safety concerns, including speeding, seatbelt compliance, impaired driving, driver distraction, and commercial vehicle safety.
Coordination
The Operational Working Group (OPG) will oversee the coordination of these enforcement efforts, collecting data and analyzing trends to support ROADPOL’s strategy of improving road safety through enforcement and public awareness. The following operations will take place across Europe in 2025:
Truck & Bus Operations – February 17-23, May 5-11, and November 17-23
These operations will focus on ensuring compliance among commercial heavy goods vehicles and buses, targeting unsafe practices such as vehicle overloading, violations of driving hours regulations, and technical deficiencies.
Operation Seatbelt – March 10-16
Officers will conduct checks to ensure drivers and passengers are wearing seatbelts and that child restraint systems are being properly used. Studies have shown that failure to wear a seatbelt is a major contributor to fatalities in road collisions.
Operation Speed – April 7-13 and August 4-10
Speed enforcement will be intensified during these weeks to address excessive speeding, one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents in Europe. A 24-hour Speed Marathon will take place on April 9, during which intensified speed checks will be carried out across all participating countries.
Operation Alcohol & Drugs – June 16-22 and December 15-21
This operation will target drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs, aiming to reduce the significant number of serious road crashes caused by impaired driving. A 24-hour Alcohol & Drugs Marathon will be conducted between June 20 and 21, during which police forces will carry out intensive roadside checks.
Operation Focus on the Road – October 6-12
Driver distraction has become a growing issue, with the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices while driving leading to an increasing number of accidents. This campaign will focus on enforcing laws against distracted driving and raising awareness of the dangers of inattention at the wheel.
Operation Safe Holiday
During peak summer travel periods, ROADPOL will conduct inspections focusing on vehicle safety, driver fatigue, speeding, and load security. These checks aim to ensure that drivers embarking on long journeys are doing so in safe and legal conditions. The operation lasts through July and August.
Тhis year for the first time ROADPOL is also introducing an enforcement operation aimed at the safe use of all two-wheel means of transportation. The operation will be held for just three days in May, but after an analysis of the results and feedback from officers on the ground it may be evaluated for a possible extension in 2026. Approach
„ROADPOL’s pan-European operations form a key part of оur strategy to reduce road deaths and serious injuries. By conducting simultaneous, high-visibility enforcement actions across multiple countries, the organization aims to create a widespread deterrent effect while raising public awareness of road safety issues“, commented Head of ROADPOL Operational Working Group, Chief Commissionner Jana Peleskova from the Police of Czech Republic. „In addition to enforcement, ROADPOL’s Operational Working Group collaborates with law enforcement agencies to share best practices, improve road policing strategies, and develop educational initiatives to promote responsible driving behavior. As Europe continues its efforts to improve road safety, these operations serve as a reminder that compliance with traffic laws is essential to protecting lives on the roads”, Peleskova emphasized.
